Sickies

The kids have been sick here for a while...about 14 days. Linc got it then Xander. It was full of fun stuff like diarrhea, vomitting and a very stubborn fever. I think when Lincoln threw up all over my feet was the highlight...nope...wait...it was the ER trip with Xander. {Do ya feel the sarcasm?}

Anyway, during all this illness, Xander's EBV (epstein barr virus) has shot up. Nasty, nasty virus. I hate this thing. It is so STRESSFUL! It's stressful because EBV can turn into PTLD (post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder) = cancer. We keep a very close eye on it so if anything does happen, we can catch it in the beginning. However, before it even gets to that stage, the docs will try and lower Xander's immune suppression drug in the hopes that his body will fight it off. It's a delicate balance lowering the meds because you don't want to go too low because then Turbo might reject. Basically we will have to have a ton of blood draws until it all settles down or action needs to be taken. I'm praying it all just settles down.

So tomorrow we're heading to get more labs and go from there. Hopefully his numbers will be looking better. I pray it just got out of hand because he got sick. That this virus plus the EBV was too much for his little body to fight at once. So keep your fingers crossed that tomorrow's labs yield good results!

One of Xander's friends, Brooke, is also fighting EBV. She received her gift of life a month or so before Xander. Please send Brooke and Xander some healthy vibes. It's time they get a break!

So everyone say it with me, "GO AWAY YOU STUPID EBV!"
